Hi,
I am having a big time problem with a Palm V handheld computer. Here
is my problem, when I am trying to synchronize my data from my desktop
with my Palm handheld, I am getting this error message: "The
connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be
established. Please check your setup and try again". I am using the
Palm locally connected on my only serial port since 3 years without
having any major problems except for the speed of the connection.
Other than changing the speed to 9600,
I have tried a lot of things to troubleshoot the Palm computer, the
Palm desktop software, the Hotsync application and the computer itself
but I never was able to fixed the problem. Maybe you can help with
that issue.
I am giving you a couple of information about my system.
- My platform of operation is Windows XP.
- Palm V
- Palm Desktop Organizer Software 3.0.1.
- HotSync Manager 3.0.2
- Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0
Here is all the troubleshooting that I have done before sending you
that email. Before doing that I have made a backup of all the data
related to my Palm (c:\Palm) and checked that the power supply and the
connector to the port are correctly connected. The port is set like
usually:
9600 for Bits per second select.
8 for Data Bits select.
None for Parity select.
1 for Stop Bits select.
None for Flow Control select.
1- Verify if local is checked? (top of Hotsync manager menu)
2-Change the speed to 9600.
3-To confirm that COM 01 is present and functionning okay.
4- Uninstalling COM 01, and reinstalling it.
5- Uninstalling the Palm Desktop Organizer and Hotsync and
reinstalling them.
6- Uninstalling the Palm Desktop Organizer and Hotsync and
reinstalling them with new updates for Palm Desktop Organizer and
Hotsync.
7- Uninstalling the Palm Desktop Organizer and Hotsync, Deleting the
registry related to the Palm handheld and reinstalling them with new
update.
8- Installing Palm Desktop Organizer 4.0 over the version 3.0.
9- I have checked that the COM port selection in HotSync Setup is
correct and that
the COM port is not in use by any other component, or a component
which
shares the same IRQ.
I am starting to suspect a problem with the Hotsync and/or Palm O/S
problem because I have installing the cradle and all the software on
another computer with the exact same configuration, the same platform
(Windows XP + service packs) and the same data (backup ealier made),
and it is working perfectly.
I have read a lot of posted messages on differents newsgroups site but
they did not help me much.
Could you please help without telling me that I will have to format
the computer.
Thanks in advance.
