Screwed up my Zaurus 5600 - need a file...
Posted by don schad on August 6th, 2003

Hi folks,

I have had my Zaurus 5600 (actually work's 5600) for a few hours and
I'm pretty much ready to toss the stupid thing out the window. In my
efforts to get my ethernet card working (those that were certified by
Sharp failed to work "out of the box", as stated) I hosed my
/etc/network-device file. I can't seem to find any information on
this file, who uses it or what the entry lines are supposed to look
like. Unfortunately I was about go to USB ethernet so I could at
least telnet into the thing, but I realized that the USB ethernet
wasn't working either. I believe this is because I accidently deleted
a line from the /etc/network-device file.

I would really appreciated it if someone would post that file and/or
email it to me (the above doesn't work, you could email it to dschad
at gdrs point com).

Thanks for any help. Also, while we are at it: what flavor of linux
is this thing? It seems to have a different file structure then the
5500, so most of the helpful newsgroup tips that I pick up don't work
on this thing.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

You could also do a Hard Reset which reinstalls all system files (well
it also looses any settings and data) and then look at the file.

Or you can subscribe to the Zaurus Developer connection
(www.zaurus.com), download the ROM image for the Zaurus internal ROM.
It is simply a zipped tar file so you should be able to get it from
there.

(Sorry, I have a 5500 and the file may not be the same).

There is a description of the file structure (and changes) on
docs.zaurus.com .
