2 cpu's recognized

asus p4c800-e deluxe, 3 gig p4 cpu, 1500 ram,

i did a harddrive wipe by writing zeros with seagate install disk due to
poorly planned partitions and potential corruption. i thought a wipe was the
best thing to do. after a installed windows my system has been totally
bugged. i have sound driver/hardware issues from soundmax onboard. my system
is sluggish as anything. i also found that two cpu's are recognized by the
system. my board only supports one cpu (i would put lol here but i ain't
laughing). i tried removing one and then both cpu's and rebooting...no go. i
tried clearing the cmos via jumper and battery removal and rebooting...no go.
i still have 2 cpu's recognized.

i made no hardware changes when i wiped the hard drive. i wiped it with
zeros and then loaded win xp pro from the full install disk. i reloaded the
board drives and updated to sp2 and updated all my drivers. my system is now
a mess.

i have no idea what happened but i have never seen two cpu's recognized in
any single cpu system before. any ideas?

Very likely you have a hyperthreading CPU, thus XP shows 2 CPU's installed
even though you have only 1 physical CPU.
