- Are all USB port equal?
- Posted by Academia on March 5th, 2008
I have an XP computer from Dell with 4 USB ports in the back and 2 in the
front.
When I plug my wireless keyboard in the back not all the keys work but
plugged into the front they do.
I've moved the connector a few time to be sure and it always works in the
front and never in the back.
I've tried both unused ports in the back
I have a printer and scanner plugged into the back - they are not turned on.
Work well when the are turned on.
Are the ports somehow different?
Thanks

Strange. I have a keyboard that works well plugged into the from but plugged
into the back the special keys do not work. It must be making connection
because the regular keys work OK.
I wonder if there are something like port numbers and maybe the drive can
only use certain ones? Something like that.
Thanks for the input

Reload the KB driver when plugged into the back.

I've reloaded many times but never thought about doing after I moved the
connection.
I'll try that now.
Thanks

That did not fix it. I no longer believe it relates to the port because I'm
having the same trouble on all usb ports.
I started a new thread giving my latest findings.
Thanks
