Bizarre sound failure after installing .net framework 2.0
Posted by Burninator on December 28th, 2007

I needed to update Radeon X850 video drivers for a game. This
installed ATI CCC and gave me a mom.exe error. So I installed
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0
Redistributable Package. Then uninstalled and reinstall the ATI
Catalyst program. Error was gone but...

Now, my 5.1 speaker system (creative SAB Audigy 2 ZS soundcard) has
a problem I can't figure out. When I test the speakers using
soundcard diag, all tests out OK. But I get no sound from rear two
speakers when using Windows media player, VLC player, Media Center,
and MusicMatch. But oddly, I get full sound from all speakers when
using Jet Audio or playing a game (Team fortress 2, for example).

I did not update the sound card drivers.
Running Windows media center SP2 on Dell XPS.
