- cd & dvd drives
- Posted by Radio Roger on January 22nd, 2006
my cd and dvd drives have disappeared from 'my computer'
In the device manager, I get the following message:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration
information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
How do I solve this problem?
Have I got to install windows again?

To resolve your issue, follow these steps:
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
[Start > Run and type: REGEDIT , and hit enter]
2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value,
if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need
to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.
7. Restart your computer.

my upperfilters is GEARAspiWDM
but I don't have lowerfilters
in addition, under {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318},
I have 0000, up to 0007
can I simply delete the key and let Windows rebuild the registry?

Reinstalling the driver gives the same problem. Drivers can not be loaded.
Deleteing the device returns same problem. Drivers can not be loaded.
Manualy installing Driver files same problem. Drivers can not be loaded.
A second installtion of XP brings the drives back to life. Working again.
I need to fix 1st installation where all my programs are.
