computer freeze at startup
Posted by manhattan24 on September 26th, 2005

hi

my computer (p4, winxp pro sp2, 1gb ram) was fine until last week when
i was browsing the net and the pc froze. i did a reboot but i got the
blue screen of death. i tried to start up in safe mode and the problem
still occured. as a last resort i managed to do a reinstall of the o/s.

unfortunately when i boot the computer now it sometimes freezes when
the screen comes up that says the computer details i.e. cpu p4, it
doesnt display the primary driver etc. i have to keep rebooting until
it works (sometimes 3 or 4 attempts).

does anyone know what might cause this problem, as i think there must
be something wrong.

cheers

Hello, manhattan.
Did you have any antivirus and antispyware prigram?
Did you check and clean your PC regular?
It seems to me you have some software problem.

Reseat memory and all drives, cards.Blue screen may point to mem

memory;not seated properly or going south on vacation, loose ide
cables, drives not configured properly in bios or incorrect jumper
settings.

Check your cables.

It might be worthwhile for you to format your OS partition with a fresh
install since it sounds like one or more of the main system files has been
corrupted. You can also try to run "sfc.exe /scannow" from the run command
but there's no guarantee that will work.
