- configure few keys of my laptop
- Posted by Fabiop on April 22nd, 2008
Hello,
I would like to configure few keys of my laptop.
I need to key often few letters which are not on the keyboard: * , é , ì , ò
, ù , which are the 5 vowels with the accent ‘ over each one.
Can you tell me on how to program just the keyboard or just the 5 keys to
have the vowels with the accent ‘ over each one?
Ad example it would convenient to me if by keying: “control”, or alt ,or the
windows key, + “a” I would get “*” (the a with the accent over it).
Thank you very much for your help.

even though this did not work for me, but I'm using Thunderbird.
Or you can use the character map which is the way I do it. But its a
bit awkward for a lot of use. If you not familiar, its under
accessorieè - system tools. You pick the font and the character you
want, select it, copy it (to the clipboard) then paste it to your app.

Use keyboard shortcuts.
1. Make certain that the Num Lock key has been pressed to activate the
numeric key section of the keyboard.
2. Depress the Alt key.
3. While the Alt key is depressed, type the proper sequence of numbers (on
the numeric keypad) of the ALT code from the table above.
4. Release the Alt key, and the character will appear.
* Alt133
á Alt160
é Alt130
è Alt138
ì Alt141
* Alt161
ò Alt149
ó Alt162
ù Alt151
ú Alt163

Set your Regional Settings to ENGLISH.
Set your keyboard to INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH. (not US or UK English, etc).
You can now enter the accented vowels from the keyboard. You will need to get used to the accent and quote keys working
differently. It took me about 3 hours.
