Do I need a fan for my external hard drive?
Posted by OM on October 26th, 2005

I have an external hard drive box.
The enclosure has a fan.
The fan has got very noisy.
I was just wondering... do I need the fan at all?

Am I right in saying that the external hard drives you can buy off the
shelf DON'T have a fan?
Therefore I don't need a fan??

Thanks.

You can remove the fan on the drive, and use the drive for a griddle.
You can remove the fan from the drive and use the drive as an iron to get
rid of wrinkles.
You can remove the fan and use the drive as a laminate sealer.
You can remove the fan from the drive and use the drive to make coffee by
the cup.

Are you getting the picture here?

If you want to use the drive, leave the fan on. It is there for a reason.

I have seen hard drives hot enough to fry an egg. It's up to the OP if they
want to "burn the house" down!
