DVD-RAM Wont Read DVD's anymore
Posted by Shawn on November 19th, 2007

well a few days ago my DVD drive was working fine, it could read and install
from DVD's but today when i try and put a DVD game into it to install it wont
read it. sometimes the drive will change all together and say it's a CD-ROM
drive after i close it with a DVD in it, and other times it wont do anything
when a DVD is in it.

anybody know why? I need help here.

My CD drive works fine and the DVD device is listed in the device manager
and i just updated the drivers for it, still not working.

Try a DVD/CD lens cleaner disk. If this does not help, then your
drive's DVD laser might no longer work. Most DVD drives have two
lasers, one for CD and the other for DVD.

the cleaner disc will work in my CD drive but not in my DVD drive, it sounds
like the player is trying to start spinning the disc but just stops, it spins
it a very small amount and then stops.

so then it might just not be working anymore?
still need help here.

Unusual fix that worked for me, same problem:

Physically disconnect the cd drive cables.
Seems my CD was clashing with the DVD.
Ended up removing Cd player, even though *it* seemed to work.

Then it seems that you have a EIDE "master / slave" drive jumper
setting conflict.
