- External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - please help !

I just purchased a new Hitachi 2.5" IDE HDD external 40GB hard drive with a
USB 2.0 portable, (and I'm using Windows XP.) When I turned on my laptop,
the hard drive does not work at all. All I heard is the "clicking" sound.
It keeps clicking ... clicking ... clicking ....
The external hard drive is working just fine on my desktop.
Can somebody help me solve the problem, please?

Not enough power? Connect external power supply.
