- HELP - 802.11b/g card thinks it's G only
- Posted by matthew on April 27th, 2006
I have an Acer Aspire 3005WLMi with integrated Broadcom 802.11b/g.
winXP Home[5.1.2600] with the newest 3.100.46.0 driver.
I have connected to my home D-Link 802.11g AP fine. I could NOT connect
to a Linksys 802.11b AP.
When I looked at my XP config, I realized the system sees an 802.11g
adapter, not b/g as it should be (and says on the spec/sales sticker
that is still on the laptop).
I looked at the advanced settings for the card and there are
MANY_OPTIONS but even having played with them I still cannot get the
system to recognize this card as 802.11b/g. I have uninstalled it and
it still reinstalls as 802.11g only.
Does anyone know what I can do to get 802.11b working on this system?
I purchased the laptop with portability in mind so obviously I want b
as well as g, right?

Called their support?
(suggestion: the device name probably won't change when it works
in B or G modes. You need to tweak something. )

I did call their support. After 30 minutes the tech told me he had
spent too much time on this issue and that one of those settings should
take care of it. It might just 'pop' up in a few minutes..
