- HELP!!! Monitor is in power save mode, use pc to activate, What?!?

Windows XP Home
Dell Dimension 4500
This morning I get this message on my monitor "monitor is in power save
mode, use pc to activate"
If I turn the tower off, and leave the monitor on the same message will
still appear. It won't go away and I don't know how to fix it. If I turn the
pc on, I hear it load up and everything, but the screen doesn't change one
bit. I have tried unplugging everything and replugging it all. Same message
on monitor.
Is something wrong with my monitor, it's about 4-5 years old now?

The usual way to troubleshoot this problem is to:
1. Check that there are no bent pins and that connections are tight.
Presumably you've done this.
2. Connect the PC to a different monitor. If the problem is gone, you
know your original monitor is toast and should be replaced. If the
problem is there, you know your video card has failed.

Either the monitor, the video cable OR the PC could be malfunctioning. A
significant portion of the monitor is working or it wouldn't be able to
display the message. There could be a problem with the PC's video card
or integrated video circuitry (apllies to notebooks and many towers).
Can't realy tell which without substituteing a known good unit for one
of them.
Ask a freind to let you try the monitor on their computer. If it works
there you have a problem with your computer.

ok the dell monitor works on another pc, but no monitor will display the
windows logon or bios on my malfunctioning dell. Also the abcd lights on the
back, A and B are orange, and C and D are green.
I have checked for loose connections, frayed wires, bent connectors, or
anything like that. No problems there.
