HELP! My cd-drive just won't work!
Posted by lozzy_loo on October 3rd, 2005

Recently my cd-crive has been unable to read any sort of cd. When I put
either an audio disc or CD-rom into the drive, it acknowledges it at first,
but fails to read it at all. I've checked the system's status, and it says
that it's working, but clearly isn't. Does anybody know anything I could try
to fix it, or any common problems that sound similar? I don't know if it'll
help, but I have Windows XP, and the drive is a 'SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD-SM308B'.
It's become quite an urgent problem, so any suggestions are gratefully
accepted.

Try going into Device Manager and removing the drive then rebooting.
Windows will find the drive and install the drivers for it. This works
about 70% of the time.

Posting the error message would help some one help you, in the meantime
try this.

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code
19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

What is the bunning app you use? Has it been updated lately?

You might try this, download cdgone.zip and backup your registry to be safe
(read the readme file) and merge the cdgone.reg (right click, merge) file to
the
registry and reboot the computer. This should clear up the problem, though
you will also have to reinstall any third party cd/dvd related burning apps
etc.. if they are required or needed, it's your choice..
http://aumha.net/downloads/cdgone.zip
Read up here..
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php

As a last resort you may need to update the firmware for the CD/DVD drive..
Use the Nero infotool to id the drive string and current firmware version..
http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/Nero...oinfotool.html
Also, see this link from Samsung..

Hope this helps..
