IR Receiver

I have a device which comes with an IR receiver for it to be interogated by a
PC. I am trying to use a different make IR receiver but it appears that
somehow this device has been setup to only allow a certain IR adapter to be
usd with it. How can I get around this and use a cheaper (comsol) IR adapter.

Contact the device manufacturer to determine your options.

Yes but the company are trying to sell me this ir receiver, so they will not
assist me in working out how to use another ir receiver! It's just a
communicatoin adapter so it should be interchangable, but for some reason the
other models don't work and I want to know how to get around what they've
done in the programming/engineering of this device.(which by the way is a
24hr ECG heart monitor, and the ir receiver puts the info it records onto the
PC.)??

Or perhaps they have software that is loaded onto the pc when you get their
IR device.
