- Keyboard error on Boot - error beep codes
- Posted by Nick Barker on April 21st, 2006
I turned my pc on yesterday to only receive a series of 6 audible beeps and
then nothing. I have since tracked down the meaning of this warning from
http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml as being the following
The chip on your motherboard that controls your keyboard (A20 gate) isn't
working. First try another keyboard. If it doesn't help, reseat the chip
that controls the keyboard, if it isn't soldered in. If it still beeps,
replace the chip if possible. Replace the motherboard if it is soldered in.
However I'm now lost as to how i resolve this problem as I have tried
another keyboard without success and I'm unable to locate the cip it refers
to.
My Mainboard is an ASUS P4800-E-Deluxe
Any help greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Nick

You will need to replace your motherboard. In the meantime, you could
try a usb keyboard.
After you replace the motherboard, you'll need to do a Repair Install of
Windows.
