Hi,
RE: Window XP Pro - SP2 with Samsung YP-55 MP3 player
I have been using my 256 Mb Samsung YP-55 MP3 player to listen to audio
books, and it has worked fine. Usually the player holds about 247 Mb of
audio files. This week, the player will not accept more than about 111 Mb or
51 MP3 files. A windows error message appears: "Error Copying File or
Folder: File XXX - [File Name]: The directory or file cannot be created."
The files I'm working with range from about 1.7 Mb to about 2.5 Mb. Most are
between 2 and 2.5 Mb.
I use drag-and-drop or Copy/Paste to copy files from my hard drive to the
YP-55. I've tried Windows Explorer, 2xExplorer Z1 and Easy Explorer 2.0 with
the same results.
The files are not corrupt, and play normally from my hard drive. If I delete
a few files from the MP3 player, I can add the same number of other files,
including the ones that wouldn't load before, and they play properly.
However, I cannot load more than about 111 Mb or 51 files.
I have reformatted the MP3 player using the Samsung utility, and that didn't
help. I updated the firmware, and that didn't hurt. Except the capacity
problem, the unit works normally.
Samsung tech support checked the MP3 player, and said it seems to be in good
working order. The rep said it is probably a Windows limitation in handling
a large number of relatively small files. He suggested I try creating larger
files and loading them in to the MP3 player to see if it will accept more
than 111 MBs.
I have using the Samsung unit to listen to books for over a year, and have
never encountered the problem. Since I delete audio book files when I am
finished with a book, I can't check whether my current book's files differ
in size from ones I've used before without this problem.
Am I running into a Windows limitation? Is there a work-around?
