Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 XP 64bit drivers won't install
Posted by John Goodwin on December 29th, 2007

Trying to install Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. Trying to
install with downloaded drivers from Microsoft via Intellitype 6.1 for XP
64bit (ITP64ENG.exe). Installed, then tried to update the driver and I get
this dialog:

Cannot Install this Hardware

The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary
software.

If a driver was provided, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for
x64-based systems. If you do not have an appropriate driver, contact the
device manufacturer.

It's quite frustrating. I've tried runas admin, I've tried logging in as
admin, manually installing the drivers using type64.inf out of the
intellitype folder.

Then when I contact MS they tell me I'll have to either pay for support, or
use self help support: Knowledge Base (which has no entries for this device),
or newsgroups. At this point, I'm tempted to return it, and give Microsoft
the bird on this one.
