Networking problem
Posted by Nuno Magalhaes on October 10th, 2005

Hello all,

I've got an Ethernet Network Card that seems to give me problems on
certain occasions:
- Playing Internet Checkers or any other online game crashes my
computer when pressing play
- Can't retrieve updates from windows update center... it takes an
eternity and then it says a problem occured
- Can't use MSN Messenger because it blocks right before it signs in (I
don't think it signs in at all)
- Can't start windows conversation or webcamera with windows messenger
(Programming and accepting connections are not a problem using
Microsoft .NET Framework)

When I switch network device (to a wireless for example) I can do all
this stuff and much more. Can this be a problem from my ethernet
network adapter? I think it's from 3Com.

Changing network adapter would fix this problem?

Thanks for any reply,
Nuno Magalhaes.

Yes, it could be the NIC. Try another brand - they are cheap!

Hi Pegasus,

Tried the onboard LAN and the problem persists. Back to the old 3Com
that is better.

Any other suggestions that I should do? I'm using private static IP's
and don't have a clue what the error could be.

Can you or someone help me,
Thank you,
Nuno Magalhaes
