Hello all together,

i have a big problem. Perhaps everybody can help me.

On my old disk 60GB i have 5 partitions:

1. partition Windows 2000 prof.
2. partition Windows XP prof <=== production, here
is the problem!
3. partition Windows 2000 srv
4. partiion fpr programms
5. partition ...

Now, i have change the old disk to a bigger (160GB) disk.

I have copied all Data.

Partition 1 started very well and i can login and work with them.
Partition 3 started very well and i can login and work with them.
Parttion 2 (XP) is still standing with a screen of Windows XP. But not a
login screen is not comming up.

After a long time i found that the file \system32\config\system have
everything to do with my problem.

The new disk is the reason for my problem. That's fact. Why are the Windows
2000 partions working very well and XP not?

Any comments to solve this problem without to install XP new are very
welcome.

Klaus, did you use cloning as a means of copying one drive to another? I
would first try
cloning the 2nd partition of the old drive and reimage to the 2nd
partition of the new drive. That can be done with Free Imaging Programs.

No, it was a normal copy.

I'm wonderung, why are the partition with windows 2000 are running very well
and XP not.

I get a hint to do the command "fdisk/mbr". I will do and try it tomorrow.

I will post the result.

Klaus, it's not your mbr. From what you said you get the boot.ini menu
and can select
WinXP except it doesnt Load up. Use the Recovery Console and at the
prompt type
Bootcfg /rebuild

today in the morning, i could solve my problem. It was very confused.

With your hint (http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm), i have created
an image backup from my source to my destination disk.

After that, i had to created a WIN98 bootdisk
(http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm). I booted with them and made "fdisk
/mbr".
Whow, it was starting. All other things ( bootcfg /rebuild, fixmbr from the
XP console) didn't help.

Look here:

It is very crazy to solve a XP problem you will need WIN98. Ok, in this
case, but...
