- Please help. I can't burn cd's or install .

When I try to burn a cd it says to insert a blank cd. Even when there is
already one in there. And when I try install something I put the cd in and
nothing happens. Also when i put in a cd with something on it it says there
is no cd found. Please help I can't to anything and I don't know much about
computers. Thanks

Replace the optical drive, it seems the laser has died.

Hi,
Although your drive might be dead, I'd first try unplugging the ribbon
cord to it and reseating it several times. Do both ends of the cabling
in the hope that you're just experiencing a poor contact somewhere. If
that fails to get it running properly try using a different cable and
see if that helps. Then there's a chance that your CD player just needs
a cleaning. They make disks for such things.
