Possible RAM failure
Posted by Ebbe on April 24th, 2006

Hi

My Windows-Mediaplayer causes my WP Home to freeze when it is showing video
clips of different types .avi, .wmv and so on.

A friend of mine suggests that the problem could be a failure in the RAM.

Does any of you know some software (free if possible) that can check the
fitness of the ram.

I have only One RAM-block. therefore it is not possible for me to swap
blocks around.

If memory was the cause, you'd have problems with all your programs, not
just WMP.

Memtest is old and might not support the latest chipset/memory controllers.

You might want to try Memtest86+ instead.
It is based on the old Memtest code, with necessary updates for newer
chipsets.

How much RAM do you have. The media player pauses might be because the
system doesn't have enough RAM and has to use the page file. Systems with
256 mb RAM are strained and benefit from another 256mb at least.

More details:
Grafic card NVIDIA GeForce 6200 with 128 MB RAM
My computer is a AMD Sempron 3300+ (2.01 GHz) with 1 GB RAM
It should be enough, I might think.
