Problem accessing a camera and card reader with USB
Posted by LPS-AU on February 12th, 2008

My COMPAQ Presario V4004AP can not access a digital camera or a mass
Storage Device (Card Reader) via any of the USB ports.

The PC (XP Pro) has four USB ports and I have tried the USB mouse in each of
the ports and it works OK however if I connect the digital camera to any of
the ports I get the "booing" sound but it does not show up in Windows
explorer.

When I check the Device manager, it has a yellow ! The camera is
listed as "Other Devices" and E-510. The card reader is listed as
Other Devices and "Mass Storage Device". When I remove the cable I get the
usual sound effect. When running the driver update/install I get the "Cannot
Install this Hardware" message.

Both items have been checked on a desktop PC (XP Home) and both work as
required.

TIA for any assistance.
Peter Stacey.

Card readers usually use the "built-in" drivers from Microsoft

Several digital cameras require a driver to be installed. Always
check with the camera's manufacturer for the drivers.
