Problem printing on USB Parallel port
Posted by mattb on October 25th, 2005

I have a USB 2.0 docking station connected to my notebook running Windows XP
Professional and am trying to print to a parallel printer connected through
the dock. It will print the first time I try to use it but then fails if I
try to print again. If I reboot the notebook it will print one time again
and then fail again. I contacted the manufacturer of the docking station and
they told me this is a known issue with Windows and directed me to look at
article number 270615 in Microsoft Help and Support however this article
doesn't offer a solution and directs me to contact Microsoft tech support.

Can anyone help me to determine what's going on here?

That article is telling to contact Microsoft Tech Support in order for them
to give you a "hotfix" for USB printing issues. This hotfix is not "public"
and you need to call for it.

BTW: Please be aware that most printer manufacturer will not support any
printer connected to any type of docking station. This just plain "sucks"!
