- Repairing Windows
- Posted by callmeoz on May 10th, 2008
HI,
My computer will not boot in any mode it gets as far as a file named mup.sys
and then reboots. I have a copy of windows xp home which is what is installed
on my notebook it just isint the same version. I have tried to do a repair
but when I do it takes me to the command promt and the only visible
drives/partitions are D:\ and F:\ If I type C:\ that works. I have tried
chkdsk and am told that all is working fine but when I type /p it will not
work. also typing dir will not work either I am told there is an emuration or
something similiar problem. Can anyone help advise me on what I should be
doing please Thankyou

I went through something like that and it turned out that the hard
drive that Windows XP was installed on (C) was bad - even though at
times it could be written to and it passed ChkDsk multiple times. I
had it cloned to a new hard drive and was up and running w/o a problem
for months now
