My Gateway PC about 3 yrs old continuously has the fan running whenever I
wake it up. The minute i move the mouse and get the pc up and running the fan
runs and will not shut down unless i put it to sleep or reboot.
Anyone out there have any ideas what may be wrong and how to fix it, without
dragging it to a service dept.????

I would try Gateway's website. It may be a common problem that will
have an answer there.
It might be a heatsink fan working harder to cool the cpu or other
cooling fan. Power Supply?

If the fan still demonstrates that it can run at both a low and
a high speed, then mechanically and electrically, it is probably
still working correctly. That leave overheating, due to clogged
air flow, as a potential source of the problem.
