- XP won't assign drive letter to Win2k disk. NTFS 3.0 to NTFS 3.1
- Posted by medmonds on March 11th, 2006
Is there a util to update a NTFS 3.0 (Windows 2000 SP4) disk to NTFS 3.1
(WinXP SP2) ?
I just bought a new PC with XP MCE and have installed my old HDD from a
Win2K PC
and want to move my data files to the new drive.
XP Disk management say the disk is: NTFS - Healthy (Unknown Partition) and I
can't assign the win2K disk a drive letter.
The disk is a Maxtor 40GB IDE and is fine on the old PC, boots into win2K,
fully working.
Can I boot to recovery mode from my XP CD and do a Fdisk /MBR (fixmbr) or
some diskpart routine to get XP to see the disk?
I don't want to try this until Im sure it won't lose the partition.
TIA
