Access Denied message
Posted by Old-Navy on December 9th, 2005

One of my drives, that holds all of my Shareware/Freeware programs, has
suddenly developed an adversion to opening files/folders. When I try to open
them I get a x:\(file/folder) is not accessible, Access is denied. error
message. I have tried backing up inidividual folders and when I restore them
I am asked if I want to keep the security settings. When I deselect the
setting, after the restore process I am able to open these files/folders. Is
there a setting somewhere I am missing that will let me change the settings
on this drive so I can access these files/folders?

Try, and I'm not so sure with your description above, taking ownership of
the files (actually of the folders themselves with the permissions also
applying to the files and sub-folders beneath it) by switching off simple
file sharing.

That link describes it fairly well. Have you changed accounts, had a
corrupted profile, or anything? That's usually the cause of this symptom. If
so then:
