Accessing my network from remote sites
Posted by janew on May 8th, 2008

Ive heard that one can have a network in office on a server and set up a
system whereby you can access the actual server and get to ones files. How
is this done? What do I need to do? Is in an IT job or someone I contact
via internet? or both.

them. Its a more complex issue than should be posted here. There are
router issues, firewall issues, permission issues, and flat out security
issues.

Hi Jane,
First does the site belong to work and you want to do some work from home
sometimes by Remote access or it is another computer and you want to access
it from abroad?.

You will need some credentials created for you on that server to gain access
(only you have access to this account) and use either a third-party software
or the Remote access on Windows operating system.

say you created an account on the server and you want to access this account
from home you will use your laptop/desktop to log in by using this procedure:

Installing Remote Desktop Web Connection in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284931
Start a Remote Desktop Session
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...moteintro.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...rteremote.mspx

Create a Windows machine on your Mac. this an example for Mac?
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/product...p/default.mspx

Note: the above is very technical and security risk if implemented wrongly
on either side server side or client side. Your whole set up can be a zombie
if compromised?
