back up hard drive.
Posted by jochanangold on November 10th, 2005

I have two hard drives C: and D: one with 12 GB files & programms and one
with 3 GB. How can I copy them as a back up to a CD and is there a way to
first compress the whole thing with Win Zip so I can do with less space ? And
is there a CD that has enough memory to store all that or is there an
alternative ? I thought about a memory stick but would cost more than my
computer. My OS is XP prof 2002 incl service pack 2. and my computer has
Pentium(R) 4, 2.80 Ghz and 480 MB of Ram.
Thanks for any advise.

A dual layer DVD burner....it would take 2 dual layer dvds to backup what
you have.

Thanks Mark for your quick response.
What do you mean by "dual layer DVD burner" ? I have a CD/DVD burner "Cilck
to DVD burner". And if I copy my HD C: cq D: to the DVD do I receive a
messages when to change to the next DVD ? Because a DVD has only 7 GB and my
C: has 12 GB to copy and D: has 3 GB. thus I need 3 DVD´s right ?
Is there a way to compress the data on the HD first ?
Sorry for the many questions.

If you use windows backup it has the option to compress the data and span
multiple dvds. Use the advanced options when you backup not the wizard.
