Hi.
My OS is windows XP Home SP2, I sign in as an Administrator. Recently
my hard drive crashed due to physical damage. I had almost the whole OS +
personal files backed up to DVD’s (using Norton Ghost). I reinstalled the
“clone” onto another hard drive which is a different brand/model than the
original. Everything seemed to work except when I went to install the client
software for the connection to my proxy server. The OS crashed due to this.
After examining the cause of this I found that the registry keys permissions
are different than usual. When I right clicked on one of the “proxy client’s”
software keys the “Permissions for Administrators” box had only one tick in
it on “Special Permissions” then in “Advanced” under the tab “Inherited From”
it had <Not Inherited>. I could not edit/delete ect. the keys until I changed
the permissions. The software could not add/modify ect. the key on reboot
ether, hence the OS crash, until I changed the permissions. Usually these
keys have permissions set as “Inherited from…Machine\Software” and
“Permissions for administrators….Full Control + Read”. Other software I
install may be having the same problem but I don’t know where all the keys
are to be able to fix them. The original OS had no problem so I believe this
drive change may be causing it. Thank you in advance for any suggestions to
help fix this problem…
