Blue Screen - "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"
Posted by Bart7 on October 17th, 2005

After painstakingly removing all traces of Norton AV 2005, I installed and am
running AVG Free Version 7.0.344, which was installed about five days ago.
This has been the only change to my system. I am running a Dell Inspiron 600m
notebook computer with 512 Mb RAM, WIN XP Pro SP2, Zone Alarm, Diskeeper,
SpySweeper, MS AntiSpyware and a normal Dell 2300 router firewall. On two
occasions, my IE6 browser stopped working, and when I exited the program, I
got a Blue Screen of Death with the error message "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".
This is a very intermittent problem. I have checked both my BIOS and video
drivers and they are current. My RAM tests are showing nothing as well. There
are no exceptions showing on my hardware driver screen. Since my only change
has been to switch to AVG, I'm wondering if this could be the cause of my
problem. Many thanks.

Use the Windows installer cleanup utility to remove all traces of Norton.
This can also be used to help indirectly, in the reintallation of the Norton
product as well..

See the differences in the free AVG edition verses their pro edition..

AVG 7 free edition has it's merits, but it is limited..
Symantec's NIS worked great for me on all my machines for years without
exception and without viruses..I would not use anything less...
