cannot change file type associations
Posted by Dave on February 2nd, 2006

Hi,
I use XP/SP1. I want to fix a few problems before installing SP2.

I use Mozilla but the system always reverts to IE as default browser. I
tried to change the file-type associations manually from Windows
explorer, but the whole area is grayed out. I also cannot connect to a
wireless network from anything but administrator accounts, though the
machine stays connected once I log off.

There seems to be a problem with account permissions- or might it be
something else?

Also, neither Partition Magic nor Partition Manager would change
partition sizes, though I eventually managed that by booting Partition
Manager in Linux mode from a CD.

Does anybody have suggestions as to how can I fix the system without
reinstalling Windows from scratch, with all the hassles that that entails?

Thanks
Dave
