Can't close down WinXP Pro because updates installing

Can't close down WinXP Pro because updates installing: Posted by David Litchfield on November 8th, 2005; When I select Turn Off Computer->Turn Off goes to usual blue screen but then
says wait while update 1 of 1 is installed-do not turn off. This then goes on
forever with no update installed. Will go on for hours if I do not pull the
plug. Can I stop this happening?; Posted by David Litchfield on November 9th, 2005; Now stopped this happening by changing Update options from 'Automatic' to
'Notify me'. Update is trying to install a security patch to .NET, but I
uninstalled .NET some time ago. Obviously Update thinks it's still installed.
