Can't print on network printer

Hi,

I have 2 machines running XP Home, one wireless laptop, the other a desktop
with a printer
shared on the network. The laptop has had no problems printing since
installation last year.
In the last few days the laptop had intermittent problems printing to the
desktop's printer.

The event viewer on the laptop shows:

1> a warning that it could not get response from DHCP server
2> an error that it could not get a list of servers from the master
browser
3> an error attempting to print.

The event viewer on the desktop shows nothing amiss, no failed attempts from
the
laptop to list shared resources, or attempts to print.


My questions are:

1> since the DHCP message was only a warning, would the laptop keep its
current IP address until a valid renewal ?

2> If the answer to #1 is "no" - if there there is no IP address would
the NetBios
cease to use TCP/IP ?

3> If the connections were originally established using NetBios over
TCP/IP would
the desktop server recognize non-TCP/IP NetBios requests if the
answer to #2 is
true ?

4> Would disabling NetBios over TCP/IP solve the problem of file and
printer sharing
due to loss of DHCP lease issues ?


If none of these questions are relevant to my described problem please point
me in the right
direction.

Just a thought, but if your using your desktop computer as a print server;
wouldnt it be easier (and more practical) to assign it a static IP address
instead? I would assign both computers static ip addresses and see if the
solves your problem.
