computer loops at safe mode, safe w/command prompt, etc. screen (XP Pro)
Posted by caver on December 5th, 2007

The closest question I have found is one that asked 'How to start computer
(Windows XP Pro) in safe mode at the command prompt' ( I think) and that is
the point where it starts looping It doesn't explain how to do it when the
computer will not enter safe mode. My computer keeps looping after the
screen that offers the options to start in safe mode, safe mode with
networking...command prompt, etc. but then simply restarts from that point
no matter which of the choices you select. What other options do I have? I
have already tried to use the remote console to repair it with the 'chkdsk
/r' in dos and its runs that and says it completed properly but it continues
to loop as described. ( I also have an eye problem...I can only see out of
my right eye and it likes to go blurry on me about this long into reading or
writing anything which hampers me in being able to troubleshoot anything. I
used to be quite good on finding things myself but not anymore. Prolly why I
do so good at asking for help as well. It would be very helpful for my if we
could do a MSN Messenger voice chat or Skype, and I can call any tele for
free all day or night) Sorry to be such a pain but I know I can get back in
these drives <raid striped> to get a few more folders and documents I missed
getting when the drive started acting funny. Please help me.)

go back into recovery
console and instead or
running a chkdsk (which
was a pretty good try),
run a
fixboot and a
bootcfg /rebuild.

if the above doesn't
work, then you might
want to consider a repair
installation with that windows

I have a similar propblem with Windows XP home edition, shortly after
turning the computer on it gives me options to choose from safe mode to
normal startup.
All options loop back to the same menu. I then tried the Recovery
option after looking this and other things up, i'v done everything
listed there, none fixing the problem includeing chkdsk /r.
I finally got around to just doing a repair installation (microsoft
also recommends when safemode does not load)
which seems to have worked, but my old legal product key apperently
isent valid anymore.
my computer has been fried a couple of times and i'v had to reinstall
windows in the past, and the key has worked then.
i would like to know what i should do. i have looked into how to fix an
invalid key, nothing really that helps.
I would call customer service ,except it costs money.

i am stumped on how i should continue. anything that dousent cost money
is best but i will spend it if it's the only way

i am sorry if this post is invalid or in the wrong area.

i swear i entered the product key in 3 times , i decided to enter it in
1 more time just for kicks, and it works
this post is no longer needed thx for the adivce listed it helped me
more then microsoft did.
