computer won't shut down
Posted by paintandsewgirl on March 5th, 2006

Hi, I have used Windows XP for several years with no problems, however... I
recently installed a firewire/usb2 card and a new DVD burner. Since then the
computer will not turn off. When "turn off" is clicked, it turns off and
promptly turns back on. Holding the power button down for 5-6 seconds will
turn it off. I have run scandisk and defragged, but the problem persists.

Thanks for any help.

It sounds like bad drivers for the firewire/USB card. Have you checked for
any updates on the manufactures website.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that now and let everyone know if
it works.

Oh, since the firewire and USB connections are working, could I still have a
bad driver?

I'm also having the same problem as you and have not installed anything new.
After taking the last Microsoft download my computer refuses to shut off. If
you find an answer let me know.
