- Converting Fat32 to NTFS
- Posted by Si on February 12th, 2006
Can I convert my C drive (which contains Win XP Pro) to NTFS without having
to re-install the OS? Is there anything I need to do to prepare the hard
drive before I convert?
Cheers.

Yes, you can convert to NTFS if you have a 3rd party partition manager, such
as Partition Magic.
You can convert without losing any programs you installed.
Otherwise you are stuck with a full install.

Take a look at this article:

As with any major change to your computer system, back up any
important files before making the conversion.
Good luck

You do not need any 3rd party software to convert from FAT32 to NTFS. It's
converting from NTFS to FAT32 that 3rd party software is needed.

You can safely convert your current hard drive to NTFS whenever
desired, without having to format the partition and reinstall
everything. As always when performing any serious changes, back up any
important data before proceeding, just in case. A little advance
preparation is also strongly recommended, so you can avoid any
performance hits caused by the default cluster size:

That's complete nonsense. There's absolutely no need for a 3rd party

nope.
as ppl have said-
FAT32-->NTFS can be done in XP
It's the other way can't be done in XP.
NTFS->FAT32 requires 3rd party SW. (dunno if it's safe anyway).
