my desktop is smaller than my screen. There is "black space" at the top.
I have tried to re-boot and all other items I know...

Use the monitor adjustment Btns.
Usually on front of monitor, or just under the front/bottom of the screen

and don't feel stupid, i've had problems in the past with the display size
and the monitor's controls aren't always the solution.
But i'm glad they are in your case.
