- disk format and delete partition hang + cannot connect to service
- Posted by pwrichcreek on December 31st, 2007
I'm trying out several disk backup/image products and have been using the
disk management routines to delete, create, and format partitions. On a
number of occasions the quick-format has hung and can be terminated only by
ending the process in the Windows Task Manager. The same sort of behavior has
been exhibited on at least one occasion when I deleted a partition.
Also, from time to time, when I start the disk management program, it
displays "connecting to logical disk manager service" then hangs. Looking at
the Services list show "started" for the status of that service. Re-boot
seems to clear the problem.
Does someone know how I can fix these problems?
TIA,
Phil

first thing I would do is a chkdsk /f on the drive that is misbehaving, I
know this is basic stuff but would help to rule out a problem with the drive.
Also usking killdisk.exe to clean the disk might be an option to ensure that
the drive is completely clean.
