(Cross-posting to XP hardware group).

I've not had a similar experience. Let me ask you some basic questions.

Do you suspect a power problem? How old is the monitor? which brand & model?

Did you recheck the connections from your pc to the monitor & from the power cord to your monitor? all secure & correctly in place?

Recheck all your connections. Power down the whole system (after logging off Windows). Disconnect main power supply.
Wait a few minutes. Reconnect power. Start up windows.

This is likely to need more suggestions from others.

Control + ALT + UP ARROW key.

I happened to do this at work on a NEC monitor (by accident). CTRL+ALT+downarrow made it
flip upside down.

Jim... TJhank you for your response. I'm sure it wasn't that i was no where
near the keyboard and it has happened twice. The first time I re-installed
the driver for my video graphics card and it fixed it for about a day, then
it happened again. this time i did a system restore. It seems to have worked
for now. Any other ideas what might be happening.. Thanks again, Ceeg
