- doesn't remember login/password for network domain
- Posted by Cat_in_awe on November 2nd, 2005
I use a website that requires a login and password that must be entered
immediately before any webpage is displayed. The dialog box that comes up
says 'Network Password', where the 'site' shows the www.location.com and
'Realm' shows a descriptive name of the site.
It used to remember my logon and password all the time. Now it doesn't
remember them. It also takes many minutes for this dialog box to come up.
I'm running Windows2000-SP4. I made a couple changes to the Services that
start manually and automatically, but when I reset those back, I still have
the problem.
Any idea what I should change to make this work like it used to ?

Hi,
Take a look at Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone> Custom> User
Authentication> Logon... try a different option.
Option "B"... Protected Storage - Save Password, AutoComplete issues
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ProtectedStorage.htm
Hope this helps,

That didn't have any effect. Are you aware of which Services are involved
in issuing this request for the Network Password? (And where it keeps a
record of such passwords?) The fact that it forgets the entry and that it
takes 2-3 minutes to even ask for it is troubling. The only changes I
recall making to the OS were changing a few Services from Manual to
Disabled, but subsequently I've changed all of those back to Manual, but I
still have the problem.

NEVER MIND! I read the ProtectedStorage web page again, and it was because
the ProtectedStorage service wasn't running that was causing the problem.
Thanks for helping!
