When attempting to download the free version of Real player, I get this
message: "Download Manager cannot download the file you requested. A
required component is not signed with a valid certificate." I have tried
solving this through Security Center on the control panel without success.

By the look of things there may an entry in your Hosts file.
The Hosts file is located here and can edited by notepad.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
Then delete this line.
127.0.0.1 software-dl.real.com
