I hope it is OK to ask this question here where the answers are good.
Microsoft, unfortunately for me, does not support the 60 day trial version of
OFFICE XP 2003 STANDARD, that I just downloaded. I am now concerned that I
made a big mistake. I downloaded this on the 60 day trial offer, because the
OFFICE XP PROFESSIONAL that I was using had been messed up badly by me when I
tried to change the VIEW of the columns showing the INBOX emails. I thought I
might as well upgrade to the newer versions of this suite of applications.
Well, I guess I got a better looking Outlook INBOX, but when I tried to
email I received an error message that said my WORD application could not be
used as the default editor because either it is not on the computer, is
another version or....
I checked and sure enough WORD, POWER POINT, ACCESS, EXCEL, and all
Microsoft applications usually in the OFFICE are gone. Where to, I do not
know, but suspect the downloading process deleted them first, neglecting to
find that there would be no replacement. I hope I am wrong.
Now, I suddenly realized that I had OFFICE XP PROFESSIONA,L purchased from
Dell and installed by Dell on my computer about a year or two ago. Does this
mean that when I downloaded the OFFICE 2003 XP STANDARD instead of the
OFFICE 2003 XP PROFESSIONAL, I inadvertently wiped out my good OFFICE suite?
I opted for the STANDARD version because it can be downloaded, while the
PROFESSIONAL has to be mailed to me. Also, it is more expensive and I do not
really need the improvements, if any.
Does anyone have an idea of what might have happened in this situation and
what I will have to do to recover? My guess now is that I will need to
unistall all the downloaded programs and then dig up my original discs and
reinstall the many applications in OFFICE XP PROFESSIONAL. Afterwards, I
would have to update them all, correct?
Gee, I hope someone has a better answer, although most of all I need a
well-qualified reply so I do not do any further damage. I think it will be
difficult enough to do this right with help. Thanks for your help.
