Dual OS Systems -- How do I remove one?
Posted by NotaGeek on November 27th, 2005

Hi -- My computer crashed yesterday and was stuck in a continuous startup
reset mode. I managed to re-load XP Pro OS on my system, in a different
folder on the same partition. I cannot find a way to install all the programs
that were installed on the other OS (Office, for example), and I also want to
remove the old OS as it's now taking up a lot of space. I have Windows XP Pro
up and running again and I have Internet access again (obviously). I can see
all my old files are still on the computer - I've tried copying them over to
the new OS, but when I try to open an application it tells me the application
needs to be installed. I can't figure out where the install setup.exe files
would be.

So my first question - how do I safely remove the extra OS from my computer
to free up space?

Second question: how do I transfer all the programs that were installed on
the old OS to the new OS?

I have searched knowledge base articles to find these instructions, but I
can only find articles for removing SP2, not for removing an entire OS.

thanks
