the lights turn on but the media will not play. the optic drive wont eject on
it's own, i have to use a paper clip to trigger the emergency eject. tried
dvds and cds and it still wont work.

This sometimes happens when the cable at the back comes lose. Remove you
computer case (disconnect the power) and check the gray ribbon cable
connection. Also check for dust build up inside the case.
