- DVD-RW will read DVD's but not CD's

I'm having problems with my DVD-RW, it is reading data DVD's & movies but it
won't read any cd's no matter what. My laptop started doing this about 3 days
ago. I don't know if this has something to do with the autoplay. If I insert
a DVD, the autoplay will appear, but not with any cd's. It wont let me burn
any cd's either. I hope that you can help me. Thanx in advance.

It is a hardware problem. CDs use a difference laser than DVDs. Thus one
might work OK, but the other would not.

Go to any store that sells CD/DVD media, get a lens cleaner disk. The
accumulated debris is likely blocking the wider beam used for CD's.
