A DVDRW Challenge...
Posted by Mike on November 2nd, 2005

OK, here's one for you. I have a Phillips DVDR1640 which has worked fine for
6 months.
It will recognise, play and burn CDs fine.
It will play pre-recorded DVDs, as in feature films, but has suddenly taken
it upon itself to not now recognise blank or previously burned DVDs.
I have:
Checked diagnostics and it informs me it's fine.
Taken the device to a dealer and it tests OK. CDs/DVDs burn no problem.
Uninstalled and re-installed the device.
Removed upper and lower filters from the appropriate registry.
Scanned this support group for a similar problem but haven't found one.
So, here I am.
Stuffed.
Please help, I am at a loss.
Many thanks to all who respond on here, not just mine. A great job.

When you said it "tested fine at a dealer" - does that mean the functions
you cannot do - it did when in the Dealer's PC?
In other words - while in an alternative computer, the drive successfully
read/recognized blank or previously burned DVDs?

Also - checked for firmware updates?

Yes, it worked okay on their PC so I'm guessing a configuration issue...?
but checked everything I can think of. (Limited knowledge I hasten to add)
Also I have checked for updates and I have the latest.
Thanks for your help
