Error/Shutdown due to Norton's ccapp.exe
Posted by Justin Ashlock on March 10th, 2006

For some time now, it often seems that when I right-click on a file in
windows explorer -- to check properties, move, delete, etc. -- it initiates a
series of shut-down messages including: "GBPoll", "Norton Protection
Status", "Common Client User Session", "NTVDM.EXE", and "Norton AntiVirus
Auto Protect Service" "has encountered a problem and needs to close" -- in
that order.

I then have to restart my computer to be able to restart the Anti-Virus
auto-protect service, to access Norton Protected files, etc.

Microsoft's OCA stated that the error is caused by Client and Host Security
Platform (ccapp.exe) and I followed the link to Symantec, but found nothing
useful.

Does anyone have any ideas or solutions (keeping in mind that I am not at
all IT material and my familiarty with technical vocabulary, drivers,
interfaces, etc. is severely limited)? Or do I just need to buy an up-dated
version?

First run Symantec's automated support assistant to see if it resolves
the issue:
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/hom...tml?src=hho_us

Select Help me solve it.

If no joy post back with the Norton product/s you have installed and
versions.
