Now all of a sudden when my cable modem is plugged in via ethernet
connection window restarts . I get blue screen saying driver irql not less or
equal. I restored my system to original settings on advice from hp. still
have same prob. They tried to sell me a new computer ##@##!! I re started in
safe mode and it still turns off with modem attatched

Dear rsm,
in the blue screen where it says `IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL`, find the driver
name that is causing the problem (should be at the bottom of the screen).
Please report the driver name here.
right click `my computer`, select `properties`, select `hardware`, select
`device manager`, expand `network adapters` and post information about
network adapters listed there.
I am almost sure this is a driver problem

Download and install this:
ftp://202.65.194.18/cn/nic/rtl8139ab...635)(1018).zip
If the download doesn't work, check out this page:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True
Hope that helps,

no luck with the down load I installed. Windows still restarts when the cable
modemis connected. I installed modem through usb port and it also caused
windows to restart. Maybe I will just have to take it some where to find out
what the heck is going on.

Havent had time to mess with this for a while but i am back at it again.I
updated all the drivers hp asked me to in an attempt to cure this prob with
no luck. Itried connecting to internet via dial up and my system restarted
just like it did with bb. Could my network card be bad ?
